KUALA LUMPUR: Bosch Malaysia Sdn Bhd is pushing Industry 4.0 (IR4.0), Internet of Things (IoT) and mobility products and solutions to local companies in adopting and leveraging on digital technologies.

In line with Malaysia’s digital economy aspirations, the German multinational engineering and technology company will also focus on upskilling the Malaysian workforce, with comprehensive hands-on training to further strengthen IR4.0 infrastucture in Malaysia.

Bosch Malaysia managing director Simon Song said while there are an ever-increasing demand for IoT and IR4 adoption in the region, Malaysia can be the forefront in future digital technologies if local manufacturers, particularly small and medium enterprises (SME), deploy IoT and IR4.0 solutions.

“With decades of manufacturing experience, our company is able to demonstrate the benefits of IoT and IR4.0 adoption in manufacturing plants around the world, including Malaysia,” he told the News Straits Times at the 100 Years of Bosch in Southeast Asia experience day here today.

He said in Malaysia, Bosch has supported various clientele in consulting and strategic planning for IR 4.0 deployment programmes.

Bosch has three manufacturing plants in Malaysia, producing car multimedia, automotive steering systems, and power tools, all located in Penang.

“Our manufacturing plants in Penang supply to global market which makes Malaysia the largest workforce in Southeast Asia with close to 5000 employees.

“The plants accelerate IR4.0 via key in-house solutions such as Nexeed Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Platform for its production lines that are more flexible and efficient control,” he said.

Touching on sales, out of the total of RM358 billion (78 billion euro) of the total sales achieved globally in 2018, Simon said Malaysia contributed sales close to RM538 million (113 million euro).

Given the well-developed infrastructure in Malaysia, he said Bosch is also looking at increasing investment in this country.

“Whenever we consider new expansion and investments, we always consider Malaysia as priority,” Simon said adding that discussion on the idea is currently being ironed out and will be announced in the coming months.

The Bosch Experience Days also saw the launch of the company’s new Tronic 3000s, 6000s, and 8000s range of residential water heater systems, with Malaysia being the first market to receive the product range.
