Smart biomedical cluster formed at Southern Taiwan Science Park
A smart biomedical cluster, especially for dentistry and orthopedics, has developed well at the Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP), with makers there able to produce over 75% and 90% of dental and orthopedic supplies, respectively, according to the STSP administration.
STSP statistics show that there are now 88 biomedical firms operating in the park with total paid-in capital of NT$28.287 billion (US$936.46 million). Their combined revenues came to NT$9.1 billion in 2018 and reached NT$7.43 billion in the first 10 months of 2019.
The park inaugurated a smart biomedical flagship hall on December 17, 2019, with regular exhibits there covering IVD (in vitro diagnostic devices), dental solutions, orthopedic offerings, medical cosmetology, and other high-end medical supplies. In addition, the hall will also rotate different themes of exhibitions including AI, smart medicine, regenerative medicine and minimally invasive surgery.
Besides setting up experience diagnostic lines and training centers in the park in collaboration with major hospitals and medical colleges in Taiwan, STSP has also moved to cooperate with medical institutions in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore. The park has set up its first overseas operation base in Malaysia in 2019, with 12 biomedical firms already operating there.
STSP will step up its smart medicine development by combing Taiwan’s ICT technologies and international funds, with focus to be placed on medical inspection, precision medicine, and customized medical solutions.
