PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s manufacturing sales rose 4.7% to RM73.7 billion in August compared to RM70.4 billion reported in the same month of the previous year.
On a month-on-month basis, sales value fell 0.8% or RM600 million.
“The year-on-year growth registered in sales value in August 2019 was driven by the increase in non-metallic mineral products, basic metal & fabricated metal products (6.6%); petroleum, chemical, rubber & plastic products (4.1%); and electrical & electronics products (3.6%),” said the chief statistician Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin.
He said the total employees engaged in the manufacturing sector stood at 1.09 million persons, an increase of 1.3% or 14,448 persons as compared to 1.07 million persons in August 2018.
Salaries and wages paid for the period amounted to RM4 billion, an increase of 3.3% or RM129.7 million against the same month of the preceding year.
Simultaneously, the sales value per employee grew 3.3% to RM67,681 compared to the same month in 2018. Meanwhile, the average salaries & wages per employee was RM3,677 in August 2019.
